College Profile: Molloy College
Molloy College is located in Rockville Centre, New York, a Nassau County community on Long Island, in the United States. At 30 acres, it is a relatively small campus with no residential facilities. Students generally commute from their homes on Long Island or New York City. Molloy advertises the school's "quality education close to home." Molloy College was founded by the Dominican Sisters of the Congregation of the Holy Cross in 1955. Molloy offers undergraduate and graduate programs in numerous areas. It is perhaps best known for its nursing program, which is the fourth largest in the country. In addition, Molloy offers an honors program and interdisciplinary studies for undergraduate students. Graduate students can study in the areas of business, education, nursing, or social work. The social work graduate program is a joint venture with Fordham University. Molloy also offers a selection of continuing education courses each semester. Its athletic teams compete as the Molloy Lions. Sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, rugby, lacrosse, and soccer for men; basketball, cross country, dance team, rugby, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball for women, as well as an equestrian team for both men and women. In addition to athletics, there are a number of clubs and organizations for Molloy College students. Molloy's global learning program is also popular, as students can travel to foreign lands to take courses with Molloy faculty at approximately the same cost as taking the courses on campus. The Molloy College Rugby Football Club was established in 2005 by Brendan Droge, who played collegiately at Iona College. The first match in team history was played on April 1, 2006 against local rival Hofstra University. The team celebrated their first win after a hard-fought 19 – 17 victory over Drew University on October 1, 2006. The club resides in the Blue Division of the Met Union along with Bard College, Drew University, Dominican College, Manhattan College, Montclair State University and SUNY Maritime. The team is an affiliate of perennial club-level powerhouse Long Island Rugby Football Club and a member of the Metropolitan New York Rugby Football Union. The Union governs more than 80 men's and women's clubs, college, high school and youth rugby teams in Northern New Jersey, Metropolitan New York, Long Island and Fairfield County, Connecticut.
